Another magical Symphony Under the Stars event will be presented by Gladstone Regional Council and Queensland Symphony Orchestra with a free music concert, Dance Around the World, at the GPC Marina stage, on July 27 from 5:30pm.

As an arts leader and great Australian orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra is renowned for its high quality, breathtaking performances of both classical and modern compositions that engage audiences of diverse musical tastes, interests and ages.

The Orchestra plays a vital role in Queensland’s cultural community, educating; mentoring aspiring performers; touring regional centres; broadcasting and performing with state, national and international ballet and opera companies.

Each year, Queensland Symphony Orchestra attracts the world’s best conductors and soloists as part of its acclaimed concert season, in addition to presenting unique blockbuster events.

Queensland Symphony Orchestra is passionate about commissioning innovative new programs and Australian works and continues to invest in collaborations, recordings and digital initiatives.

In 2017, Queensland Symphony Orchestra welcomed Alondra de la Parra as Music Director.

Huw Jones who joined the Queensland Symphony Orchestra as Principal Oboe in 2013 will perform an oboe solo during the  performance.

Residents are encouraged to take along chairs or a blanket to the family-friendly event with food and beverage vendors on site.

Alondra de la Parra has gained widespread attention for her spellbinding and vibrant performances and her commitment to Latin American composers. She frequently works with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras including Orchestre de Paris, London

Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Bamberg Symphony, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

In 2017, she began her term as Music Director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, making her the first ever Music Director of an Australian orchestra. She holds the distinction of being the first Mexican woman to conduct in New York City and is an official Cultural Ambassador of Mexico. In March 2017, Alondra de la Parra was named brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz Mexico. In July 2017, Deutsche Welle has created Musica Maestra, a new classical format featuring Alondra de la Parra as both protagonist and reporter in a series of 26 web videos and six television shows.

In the 2017/18 season, she returns to Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, San Francisco Symphony, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and for a production of The Winter’s Tale at the Royal Opera House London as well as a tour with Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Highlights of the last seasons include her subscription debut with the NHK Symphony, her debut at Beethovenfest Bonn, concerts with BBC Philharmonic, her celebrated return to Orchestre de Paris which was broadcasted live by German-French TV channel Arte, appearances with the Verbier Festival Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and a live orchestral performance of the film West Side Story at Mexico’s Auditorio Nacional.
