When will the GECC open again?
The GECC reopened to the public on Monday 13 July in line with Stage 3 of the Queensland Governments Roadmap to easing restrictions. Plan your next trip to the centre.
Are there any changes to ticket purchasing during COVID-19?
Yes. To purchase tickets, you must provide the following contact details for all attendees; full name, mobile number and residential address. Patrons must agree that all contact information be provided to Queensland Health, Queensland Police Service and/or Council’s Environmental Health Officers upon request. GECC will not share contact information with any third party other than the relevant authorities, and will not use the information for promotional purposes.
Can I get a refund if I’m experiencing flu-like symptoms?
Yes. As per our additional COVID-19 Terms and Conditions for ticketing, if you’re experiencing flu like symptoms and cannot attend a performance for that reason, please contact our Box Office prior to the performance start time. GECC will require a medical certificate in order to process your refund.
Can I get a refund if I can’t attend due to self-isolation?
As tickets are booked in advance, GECC expects that customers plan ahead to ensure they have finished any period of self-isolation due to travel overseas or from a COVID-19 hotspot in advance of any event.
Can I get a refund if I just don’t feel like going?
No. As per our ticketing Terms and Conditions and as per the Live Performance Australia (LPA) guidelines a refund is not available for this reason.
What safety measures will you have in place?
We are compliant with Queensland Health restrictions and our COVID-19 safe plan details our safety measures.
I want to book tickets for a big group of people, how big can my group be to still sit together and not socially distance?
As per COVID-19 guidelines, a family group or persons who live together can sit together. You may need to be able to prove this for contact tracing purposes. If you’re unsure at the time of booking, then contact our Box Office team and they’ll be able to help you out. GECC reserves its rights to ensure compliance with social distancing in making seating arrangements.
Will you still be serving drinks and meals at the bar before shows?
Yes, our food and beverage team have meals available from the GECC Bar prior to each performance, check the event webpage on our website closer to the event to find out exactly what is available.
Can I bring my drinks from Lightbox into the GECC?
Yes, as the Lightbox Liquor License covers both areas, you can bring your drink from Lightbox with you in to the GECC Foyer. Restrictions may apply in event areas such as Theatre Auditorium or Halls.
How long before the show should I pick up my tickets?
GECC is open between 9am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, and one hour prior to each event. During COVID-19, you will be required to either print your tickets at home or have your tickets available on your phone or device.
What if I’m running late?
We like to start the show on time, if you arrive late, you may be asked to wait outside the event and will be ushered in during a suitable break.
What forms of I.D. do I need to pick up my tickets?
If you elect to, or are required to collect your tickets from the Box Office, you will be required to provide photographic identification issued by the Government or an Educational Institution, such as drivers licence or a student card. Something with your photo, name and address is ideal.
Do I need to pre-order food/ drinks?
No, currently we don’t offer pre-ordered food and drinks. The Lightbox team are kept informed of expected audience numbers and prepare quantities accordingly, so they are well prepared.
Are there other eateries nearby for before or after a performance?
There are many options available along Goondoon Street including Coffee Club (daytime shows), Oak and Vine (evenings), Ban Thai, Rocksalt, Naina’s Indian Cuisine or the Reef hotel, all within 5 min walking distance of the GECC.
Does the GECC have a dress code?
For some events, such as Banquets and Evening Balls, a dress code may apply. For Theatre Performances, we don’t have a strict dress code, though would ask that you wear appropriate clothing and something you are comfortable in.
Do you sell food and drinks? Can I take them into the Auditorium?
Yes our food and beverage contractor sells food and drinks. We prohibit food in the Theatre auditorium, drinks are allowed in plastic containers. We keep plastic containers available at the bar for patrons to use.
What time does the Bar open?
1 hour prior to a performance. GECC reserves the right to evict any unruly or disruptive patrons, so drink responsibly to ensure that you and everyone else can enjoy the event.
How early should I arrive prior to the show?
We are open 1 hour prior to a performance, so you can arrive anytime within that period and you’ll be able to relax in our foyer until the performance starts. We generally open theatre doors 20mins prior to the show, to allow ample time for patrons to find their seats.
Are Gift Cards Available?
You can purchase gift cards from our Box Office team, or online here.
How long do gift cards last?
Gift cards purchased on or after November 2019 will last 3 years, prior to this gift cards last one year.
Does a Seniors Card entitle me to a discount?
On selected performances, yes. Concession pricing will be noted on the events web page.
I love the theatre! Does GECC have a loyalty program?
We love the theatre too and to recognise those who love us we have a loyalty program which you can locate here.
Do you have premium seating?
Every seat at the GECC is premium, they are all good.
Are tickets purchased through secondary sellers valid at GECC?
It is very risky purchasing from a reseller as you have no guarantee of the ticket, and you generally pay more than its worth. The only way to guarantee the authenticity/validity of tickets is to always purchase tickets from GECC directly.
Can I transfer my tickets to someone else if I can no longer attend?
Yes, just let our Box Office team know so we can update the information on the ticket in case we need to contact them for any reason relating to the performance.
The show is sold out, what can I do?
If the show is sold out, best to Contact our Box Office team and jump on a waitlist. Sometimes sold out shows, have tickets become available or additional shows are added to the season. If you’re on a waitlist, you’ll be notified first.
What is the age range for Child ticket prices?
This can vary depending on the promoter. Generally, if not specified, anyone over the age of 18 months and under the age of 16 years would be considered a child. Infants under the age of 18 months are usually free, provided that they sit on their parent’s lap.
I can no longer attend the performance I purchased tickets for, can I get a refund?
No, GECC operates a strict ‘no refund or exchange’ policy. Please consult our Terms and Conditions for further information.
Can I reserve tickets without paying?
No. This is no longer an accepted practise.
What if my tickets are lost?
Contact our Box Office team, as we may be able to reissue tickets. This will render the lost tickets nonredeemable and may incur an additional booking fee in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.
Do you offer a discounted rate for carers or a free carer ticket?
We support carers with a complimentary ticket when accompanying the person they are a registered carer for.
Do you do Group Discounts?
Some promoters offer group discounts as part of their online booking. This is not always available for every show.
Do you offer e-tickets which can be emailed to me?
Absolutely. We call them print at home tickets, though there’s no need to print. It’s a PDF attachment. Just make sure your device has the attachment open for scanning at the theatre door.
Can someone collect tickets on my behalf?
Yes they can, they will need to provide evidence of your written consent to do so and details of the event.
Can under 18’s attend a show without an adult?
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Is the Theatre Auditorium wheelchair accessible?
Yes, we have wheelchair accessible seating available in the theatre auditorium. When booking it is best to contact our Box Office as these seats are restricted from web bookings to ensure they are only booked by those in need.
Does the GECC have Hearing assistance systems such as Inducted hearing loops?
Currently no, the venues within the GECC are not fitted with hearing assistance systems. We are looking to make improvements in this space.
How do I become a member of The Friends of The Theatre (FOTT) program?
Forms are available on our website (HERE) as well as at the Box Office. Our FOTT volunteers enjoy a wide variety of benefits and we enjoy working with the FOTT Team.
How do I show my support for the GECC?
Liking us on Facebook and sharing our posts with your networks helps greatly. If you have an enjoyable experience with us, please share this with your friends. If I need to stay the night, where do you suggest?
Our accommodation partner, Central Apartments always have good rooms available at reasonable prices and are conveniently located across the road from us. We are also a 5 min walk from the Oaks, Rydges, the Reef Hotel, and many more.
Can I send queries on your Facebook page?
Yes, our Facebook page is monitored during business hours and we endeavour to respond to all enquiries within a timely manner.
How do I find out about upcoming shows?
Our website, Facebook, and Instagram account. You can also opt into our monthly email newsletter by subscribing at the bottom of our website.
How do I hold an event or hire out the GECC?
If you visit our Plan your Event web page you’ll find details there. Or contact us via the form submission on our website, which can be located HERE.
Can I hire equipment from the GECC for my child’s birthday party?
The GECC supports our local business’ and we recommend you contact MVP Party hire, Stage and Audio, or Audio and Lighting Services QLD.

Lost & Found Items
All lost and found items will be recorded onto our Lost & Found Register (located at the GECC Box Office). After 30 days, the lost property will be donated or disposed of. Please phone 4972 2822 or complete the form below to enquire about any lost items.
