The Gladstone Region is the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Like nowhere else, the Gladstone Region is a striking juxtaposition of industry and pristine environment of the world heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, including the iconic Town of 1770/Agnes Water, rural hinterland and remarkable sandstone wilderness.
Its stunning locations include access to Great Barrier Reef islands and lagoons – Heron, Lady Musgrave, North West and Wilson, among others. The region is famous for fishing and boating. Australia’s most northerly surf beach, Agnes Water and Town of 1770, proximity to National Parks, laid back coastal villages and rural hinterland lifestyles, make it an attractive destination for holiday makers, sea and tree changers.
Begin your Regional experience by venturing up one of our prominent lookouts at Auckland Hill or Round Hill, both offer 360 degree panoramic views of the City, Harbour, Islands and the magnificent Mount Larcom, the landmark that drew Lieutenant Matthew Flinders into our Harbour.

The Gladstone Region is home to a thriving 21st Century industrial base served by one of Australia’s busiest ports, the Port of Gladstone.
As one of the largest, bulk commodity ports in the world, the Gladstone Region has positioned its strength in large scale industry, resources and energy, engineering and advanced manufacturing with a highly skilled workforce. As a destination featuring a natural deep water port, Gladstone has cruise ship docking capabilities and is now a cruise stop-over destination for over 15 domestic and international cruises annually, with increasing and growing potential in this market.

With so much to explore in the Gladstone Region, there are simple transport and hire options available throughout the Region. Taxi and car hire services, flight services, the QR Travel Train, boats and coach services operate daily within the Gladstone Region.
By Plane
The quickest route to Gladstone is of course by air, direct to the Gladstone Airport. An average number of 8 flights operate daily with QantasLink or Virgin Airlines (operated by Alliance) and it is a quick 1 hour flight between Brisbane and Gladstone. The Gladstone Airport is also the departure point for aerial services to Heron and Wilson Islands.
By Road
The Gladstone Region welcomes our driving friends and visitors. Many of our regional areas are RV friendly destinations and Gladstone City is accommodating to the drive market.
Travelling North, The Gladstone Region starts approximately 450 kilometres north of Brisbane, with several key access points off the Bruce Highway. Turn off at Miriam Vale for the picturesque Discovery Coast, at the Boyne/Tannum intersection for the seaside communities of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands, or at Benaraby for the harbour city of Gladstone.
Travelling South, From Mackay it is about five and a half hours drive, and only one hour drive from Rockhampton. Turn off at Mt Larcom to venture into Gladstone, or continue along the highway for exits to Boyne Island, Tannum Sands and the Discovery Coast. Inland Highways, Travelling north along the Country Way you will arrive at Biloela, the hubs Banana Shire respectively. Turn right at Biloela and enjoy the natural splendour of Gorges Way. For those taking a journey north along the Leichardt Highway, enter the Gladstone Region through the Dawson Valley, south of the township of Theodore and take in the stunning scenery the hinterland has to offer.
By Train
Queensland Rail operates regular services to the Gladstone Region on many Travel train services, the main being the Tilt Train, which services the Gladstone Region regularly stopping at Gladstone and Miriam Vale. Booking and information can be found through Queensland Rail Travel.
By Bus
Greyhound Australia’s services call in to various coastal and country spots throughout the Gladstone Region. Daily services to Gladstone stop at Dawson Road, BP Service Station. Visit Greyhound Australia
